A not to be missed activity when in Krabi, Thailand is to go kayaking in Ao Thalane. Known in Thai as Muddy Bay, visitors will be able to paddle through and explore the beauty and wonders of the magnificent limestone cliff formations, ancient sea caves, mature mangroves and even encounter some friendly sea gypsies and vibrant wildlife as you kayak and explore the natural, pristine beauty of Ao Thalane, Krabi.
After checking-in to our hostel - Glur Hostel in Aonang early in the morning, my sister and I got rested and ready for our first activity of the day, that is sunset kayaking in Ao Thalane, in the evening. I had my very first kayaking experience during my university days but it could not be compared to the breath-taking kayaking experience I had in beautiful Ao Thalane, Krabi. My photos and videos will justify that.
After doing some extensive research online, Phranang Full Moon Kayaking was my preferred kayaking tour operator. They came highly recommended by travellers in TripAdvisor, Ranked #2 of 30 attractions in Krabi Town. #1 is Muay Thai lessons which I plan to engage in the next time I am back in Krabi, along with many other interesting and challenging activities such as rock climbing.
I arranged and booked my sunset kayaking tour with Maria, an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff/guide. However, she was not able to accompany us and had arranged both Somchet and Jojo as our guide. As promised, Somchet arrived on the dot to pick us up from the hostel at 4.30pm. We then found out that we were the only participants of the day and had the entire truck and kayaking expedition to ourselves. Initially, we were a little afraid of Somchet and Jojo because they look menacing with their afro hairdo but, do not be fooled by their looks for they are actually quite friendly, attentive and fun to be with.
Below are some pictures and a video of our journey from Aonang to Ao Thalane. It was fun travelling at the back of the truck, having the cold wind and light rain caressing our faces as we enjoyed the scenic view of town villages, Aonang beach, limestone hills, not forgetting vast palm oil and rubber plantations too. As we travelled deeper into the outskirts of Aonang to our destination in Ao Thalane, we felt our excitement growing and adrenalin pumping as we anticipated our exciting kayaking expedition to begin.
